You can see the separate dictionary definitions of the words but if we combine them into a simple statement then, applied to internet marketing, we believe that it means the following:
The first task is to carry out extensive research, then to analyse that
research and to form a strategy to move forward.
So, the first steps for the internet marketing of your website
are:
Research -> Analyse -> Plan -> Strategy
The need for research is vital. You need to establish what your customers are searching for [key words and phrases] and not simply what you think they are looking for. You also need to define what you want to promote, your title pages and descriptions and to ensure your products match prospective customers’ expectations.
Next we need to carefully analyse the data and to create a plan of action before we create a strategy action plan to move forward.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
I think we can state quite clearly that SEO or search engine optimisation is NOT advertising. Instead it is really a technical term referring to changes and modifications to the code and text of your website, the density and balance of keywords, phrases, link alt tag descriptions, titles and page descriptions. optimising your entire website.
Internet Marketing
Internet Marketing is a total process which should take a holistic approach of looking at the overall picture. It requires technical adjustments to your website and the comprehension of the web’s ever changing platforms of which are acceptable techniques and which are frowned upon.
This process of promotion of your website covers a multitude of aspects and must be fluid and flexible enough to change. It must not be rigid in its strategy as search engines can change and so can customer requirements.
The purpose of your internet marketing campaign is to seek longevity and to make sure we plan for the future, keeping your website fresh and constantly evolving with the needs of the market for the years to come.
Internet Advertising
This is where you need to decide if you have the money to back your conviction, as many a web entrepreneur has spent thousands and lost thousands within hours, weeks or months with little ROI (Return on Investment).
It would be fair to draw parallels with offline advertising which can equally burn a big hole in your pocket or blow you out of the water if you don’t choose carefully. It is fair to say that online internet advertising opportunities are just as dangerous for the careless web owner.
Before you commit to the proposals bombarding you take a step back and preferably seek professional advice from several sources to take a balanced view before you spend your money.
Typical Internet advertising mediums include:
Pay Per Click, PPC, such as Google’s Ad Sense or Yahoo Search
